Fortunato al Pantheon
For almost 40 years now Da Fortunato has been serving meals to hungry travelers in the heart of the historic center. Located just down the street from the Pantheon, Da Fortunato features high-quality classic Roman cuisine, like grilled steak with vegetables, pastas, and eggplant parmesan. In addition, they also have a large selection of Italian wine to match any dish. Despite this restaurant’s touristy location, the prices do not reflect this.
Ditirambo
Specialising in traditional Italian cuisine, Ditirambo is a simple-yet-cosy dining environment, making it the perfect place to dine and enjoy a glass of wine before a night out in Rome.
The restaurant offers dishes based on antipasti, pasta and fish made with seasonal local produce and has an excellent variety of vegetarian options such as crispy potatoes with cheese fondue and truffle slivers, deep fried zucchini with tomato, smoked buffalo mozzarella and parmesan, or aubergine rolls
Calabrian style.
Main courses include spaghetti with Sicilian prawns, lime and basil, fettuccine with aromatic herbs and wild boar white ragout, and home-made tagliolini with artichokes,pork cheek and ewe’s cheese.
Pasta and desserts are all home made.
La Tavernaccia
Family-run, frequented mainly by locals and cheerfully chaotic, but the service is warm and friendly and the food is good Roman fare. Start with garlic bruschetta served with prosciutto, sliced by hand, and then try one of the excellent traditional pastas. This is a place to order family-style lasagna when available and then one of the prepared main dishes, although the grilled meat and fish are equally good. Vegetables in season are on the menu and there are a few homemade desserts. The wine list is small, but carefully chosen with fair prices. At dinner, the pizzaiolo is busy working away at his corner oven. The summer sees tables outside on the pavement.
